I Remember You

We reached-
arms outstretched
found,
learned,
knew
complacent and satisfied
loosened our grip
forgot, rested
lost.

But who can remember
the melody of a brook?
-keep a butterfly or a flower
in a jar?

We would remember.
Today is misplaced
Distance and time continue
I lost you
Our friendship is the victim.

i don't quite understand everything in the last section, but the poem touches a chord... remembering too many friendships that have drifted away. The first part is especially moving.

and we drift. and don't outstretch to retrieve what is lost. and selfloathe for willingly losing.
